Postdoc Fellowships 2026

The University of Göttingen is funding postdoctoral research stays in Göttingen in 2026.

As an internationally orientated research institution, the University of Göttingen benefits from new impulses and the networking of researchers in various career phases. For this reason, in 2026, the University of Göttingen is focussing on funding researchers in early career stages and plans to support postdoctoral researchers with various formats. The Postdoc Fellowships 2026 is the first of these measures: The University is funding up to 10 postdoctoral research stays in Göttingen in 2026 with up to EUR 10,000 each. This is a one-time measure in 2026, submissions are now possible. The decision on funding will be made soon.

Applications can be submitted by university research groups (excluding UMG). Prerequisites for funding are that the host working group ensures on-site supervision and works closely with the invited postdoc for the duration of the stay.

The research stays are intented to deliberately create spaces for encounters that foster new research approaches and connect with the University's strategic research goals, Understanding Energy, Information, and Life, Creating Knowledge in a Changing World and Building a Sustainable Future. In a long-term perspective, research stays may result in applications for third-party funded independent junior research groups (e.g. Emmy Noether-Group, ERC Starting Grant), creating prospects for the researchers to work independently and for a longer timer at the University of Göttingen.

Eligible costs could be:

  • travelling expenses
  • accommodation and meals
  • consumables for preparatory work (excluding basic equipment)
  • networking events
  • joint publications

If larger joint events are planned, it is possible to receive additional funding for these after consultation with the Research and Transfer Department.

Applications can be submitted at any time and should contain the following information on a maximum of three pages:

  • topic, potential and aim of the cooperation
  • funds required
  • proposed timetable
  • if applicable, strengthen the link to the University's strategic research goals
  • plans for third-party funding applications (ideally junior research group applications)
  • In addition, a scientific CV of the postdoctoral researcher, based on the Format der DFG should be attached.

If you have any questions, please do not hesitate to contact the Research and Transfer Department!
