Thesis extension

The duration of doctoral studies within GAUSS should be three years. Therefore, the thesis should be submitted three years after you started to work on the doctoral project. The oral examination and publication of the thesis does not have to take place within this three-years deadline.

An application for extension to up to four years, composed of two extensions of 6 months each, is possible through the thesis advisory committee (TAC). The first extension by six months of the thesis submission deadline should be discussed in the third TAC Meeting.

The application for maximum two extensions (up to a total duration of four years) has to be directed to the TAC and communicated to the doctoral study program and the GAUSS Office. Any extension resulting in doctoral studies lasting longer than four years have to be approved by the program committee.
You can find the Thesis extension application form as well as a handout about thesis extension of the doctoral studies on the GAUSS website.
