ENLIGHT signs joint PhD agreement: new opportunities for Göttingen researchers
Good news for professors and PhD candidates with international ambitions: the ENLIGHT alliance has signed a comprehensive joint PhD framework agreement. With this achievement, ENLIGHT positions itself among the frontrunners in Europe in terms of structural collaboration on joint doctorates.
The agreement applies to all disciplines and all ten partner universities, and sets out clear provisions for joint supervision, evaluation and defence. The result is a double PhD degree and access to a strongly integrated international research environment.
What does this mean for you?
For professors, the new framework opens the door to smoother collaboration with ENLIGHT partners. Whereas joint PhDs previously often involved time-consuming and complex negotiations, this agreement provides a streamlined approach. It becomes easier to set up strong, international doctoral trajectories together.
For PhD students, this represents a valuable opportunity: increased mobility, joint supervision by experts from different institutions, and a clearer and faster pathway towards a joint PhD.
A joint effort
A joint PhD working group, led by Ghent University, played a key role in developing this agreement and coordinated the process with all 10 partners in ENLIGHT.
As Prof. Ignace Lemahieu, research Director at Ghent University notes:
“With this agreement, we move from fragmented, case by case negotiations to a shared framework that creates trust and efficiency. This allows us to scale joint doctoral trajectories without compromising on quality or autonomy.”
